Two armed robbery suspects were shot and killed by a police operations team on Monday morning, April 13, 2026, following an attack on a Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor in Tema Community 5.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza, where a female vendor sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the attempted robbery.

According to a statement issued by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, the suspects arrived on a motorbike, with one approaching the vendor under the pretext of making a cash-out transaction.

As the vendor reached for her phone, the suspect pulled out a pistol and demanded her bag containing cash. When she resisted, a struggle ensued, and the second suspect joined in. During the confrontation, one of the attackers shot the victim in the leg, enabling them to seize the cash and flee.

A nearby police patrol team, already deployed in the area, responded swiftly and intercepted the suspects near the Tema General Hospital. The suspects ignored orders to stop and sped off, leading officers on a chase toward the Smart Hotel area.

During the pursuit, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the police, who returned fire. Both suspects were shot and fell off their motorbike.

Police transported them to the Police Hospital for treatment, but they were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the mortuary for identification and autopsy.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of several items, including GH¢11,390 believed to have been stolen from the victim, a 9mm pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition, three Android phones, multiple SIM cards, a talisman, and the victim’s Ghana Card.

The injured vendor is currently in stable condition and receiving medical care.

Police also retrieved an empty shell casing from the crime scene, believed to have been fired from the suspects’ weapon.

The Tema Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to maintaining security in the area and has urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activities.
