Bawumia lost the 2024 presidential election to John Mahama but remains the NPP’s leading figure going into the next election cycle.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on 7 May 2026, announced the constitution of its Standing and Sector Committees following a decision by its National Executive Committee and National Council.

A statement signed by Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary, NPP, and issued from the party’s headquarters in Accra-North on May 8, 2026, said the Standing Committees were established under Article 10(2)(6), while the Sector Committees were formed in accordance with Articles 10(3)(8) and 14(5) of the party constitution.

According to the party, seven Standing Committees and 23 Sector Committees have been constituted as part of efforts to improve internal coordination, strengthen governance structures, and enhance operational efficiency.

The party explained that the restructuring is intended to support its organisational activities and ensure effective management of its internal affairs.
