A staff member of the Electoral Commission (EC) has formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to take action to remove Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputy commissioners, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey.

The petition, submitted on Monday, November 24, 2025, alleges mismanagement and a lack of transparency in the commission’s operations.

The petitioner claims the leadership has failed to uphold internal governance standards, negatively affecting morale and operational efficiency within the EC.

The petitioner, Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, cited alleged misconduct he says threatens the credibility of Ghana’s electoral system.

In line with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the procedure for removing heads of independent constitutional bodies, Blankson Adumadzie is calling for immediate intervention, stressing the need to restore public confidence in the electoral body ahead of upcoming elections.

Although he declined to disclose the full details of the petition, as required by law, he revealed that it is anchored on 12 counts of stated misbehaviour.

These include allegations of cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence. According to him, the conduct of the three senior officials has eroded public confidence in the EC and poses a risk to the integrity and independence of Ghana’s electoral process.

Adumadzie emphasised that his actions are driven solely by the need to safeguard the Constitution and strengthen accountable governance, highlighting the importance of protecting the dignity of the Electoral Commission, which he says is essential to ensuring a credible democratic system.

Jean Mensa and her office have yet to respond to the allegations.

The development comes amid growing scrutiny of the EC.
