United Belgium for Bawumia (UBB), a diaspora support group backing the presidential bid of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has strongly condemned what it describes as “reckless, defamatory, and wholly unsubstantiated allegations” made against Dr. Bawumia and senior leaders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a press release issued on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from Antwerp, UBB reacted to a video interview circulated on Saturday, January 18, 2026, by We Are For Ken TV, a YouTube channel openly campaigning for the candidacy of former Assin Central MP, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.

According to UBB, the interview featured one Mr. Kwabena Adjei Nkansah, who “falsely introduced himself as a member of the Council of Elders of the NPP Belgium Branch” and proceeded to make serious allegations against key party figures.

“Mr. Nkansah made a series of reckless, defamatory, and wholly unsubstantiated allegations against senior members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),” the statement said.

Allegations

UBB stated that Mr. Nkansah accused former Interior Minister Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, former NPP General Secretary John Boadu, and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako of wrongdoing. The group said the most serious allegation was directed at Dr. Bawumia and his wife.

“Most gravely, he alleged, without a shred of evidence, that H.E. Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife are corrupt and stole public funds to build private properties,” the statement noted.

Mr. Nkansah also accused former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia of neglecting the five northern regions during their time in government—claims UBB firmly rejected.

“UBB categorically states that these allegations are false, malicious, and defamatory,” the group declared.

Demands

UBB has demanded an unqualified public apology from Mr. Nkansah to Dr. Bawumia, insisting that it must be issued using the same platform on which the allegations were made.

“Failure to do so will compel UBB to pursue all available legal remedies without further notice,” the statement warned.

Support for Bawumia

The group also dismissed claims by Mr. Nkansah that the majority of NPP delegates in Belgium oppose Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy, describing the assertion as “a blatant falsehood.”

UBB cited figures from the official launch of United Belgium for Bawumia, held on December 13, 2025, which marked the start of Dr. Bawumia’s campaign activities in Belgium.

“Twenty-two out of thirty accredited delegates publicly pledged their support for his candidacy,” the statement said, adding that 17 delegates were physically present at the launch.

“The position of Belgium delegates is therefore clear and unequivocal: Belgium stands firmly with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”

Electoral violence?

UBB further expressed alarm over claims attributed to Mr. Nkansah that officials at the NPP headquarters rigged previous presidential primaries in favour of Dr. Bawumia. More troubling, the group said, were comments suggesting possible violence if similar actions occurred in the January 31, 2026 primaries.

“UBB unequivocally condemns such reckless rhetoric,” the statement said.

The group expressed full confidence in the Presidential Primaries Committee, stressing its belief that the internal election would be free, fair, and transparent.

“We are confident that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will emerge victorious on merit, without incident.”

UBB also cautioned individuals contemplating violence or disruption under the guise of electoral grievances.

“Any attempt to undermine the peace and integrity of the primaries will be firmly resisted and appropriately addressed.”

For the avoidance of doubt, UBB stated that Mr. Nkansah does not hold any leadership position within the NPP Belgium Branch.

“Mr. Kwabena Adjei Nkansah is not a member of the Council of Elders of the NPP Belgium Branch,” the group clarified.

The statement disclosed that Mr. Nkansah was indefinitely suspended on September 15, 2025, due to “persistent misconduct and insulting behaviour,” and that the decision was formally communicated to him in writing.
UBB further revealed that a general meeting of the branch held in Gent on October 25, 2025, resolved overwhelmingly to remove Mr. Nkansah from all official party communication platforms.

“His continued misrepresentation of his status is therefore deliberate and misleading.”

Unity

UBB further urged NPP members, particularly campaign communicators, to exercise restraint as the party approaches its internal elections.

“While the NPP remains a democratic party that respects internal contestation, campaigning must be anchored in truth, respect, and loyalty to the collective interest of the party.”

The group emphasized that after the January 31 primaries, the party would need the support of all members to win the national elections.

“We must therefore guard against conduct that burns bridges and weakens party solidarity,” UBB added.
