Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged the five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct their campaigns in a spirit of unity and mutual respect as the party heads toward its 2026 presidential primaries.
This was contained in a statement signed and released by Fatimatu Abubakar, Spokesperson to the Former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
Hosting a breakfast meeting at his private residence in Nima on Tuesday, the former President said the engagement was aimed at “fostering a spirit of camaraderie and unity ahead of the party’s presidential primaries” and to underscore “the critical importance of a cohesive party for the 2028 general elections.”

Appreciation
Despite their busy campaign schedules, he also thanked the aspirants for honoring his invitation. Nana Akufo-Addo described their presence as “a testament to their shared commitment to the collective good and prospects of the NPP.”
“I have worked closely with each of you and hold you in high esteem. Your candidacies are based on merit and your significant contributions to the party and the nation. I encourage you to conduct your campaigns in a healthy, issue-based manner that focuses on presenting your visions to the party delegates,” the former President stated.
Nana Akufo-Addo stressed that his foremost concern was the NPP’s cohesion and the credibility of its internal processes, emphasizing that he remained “committed to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process, and to working towards a properly energised and rallied party, fully prepared to secure victory in the 2028 elections.”

Solidarity
All five aspirants—Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong pledged to maintain a “healthy but competitive campaign atmosphere.”
They further assured that both they and their supporters would “rally behind the eventual winner and uphold the unity of the party after the primaries.”
The meeting also saw the participation of senior party figures, including Hon. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders; Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, Acting National Chairman; Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary; Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader; and Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, former Chief of Staff.
Former President Akufo-Addo further commended the aspirants for their positive engagement and charged the party leadership to “ensure a credible and fair process to facilitate the unity of the party after the presidential primaries.”
