Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has rejected allegations that investigative agencies are being deployed to suppress the Minority in Parliament, describing such claims as unfounded.
Delivering his concluding remarks as Parliament rose for the year, Mr Ayariga said his long experience in the House does not support the assertions being made.
“I have been in this House for close to two decades—as an opposition member, as a minister, and now as Majority Leader. I have never seen anything like that,” he stated.
In a related development, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin used his closing address to urge Members of Parliament to pay closer attention to their health and family life during the recess.
He stressed the need for self-care and early medical checks, pointing out that life is unpredictable and that public office does not exempt anyone from health challenges.
“To all honourable members, please spend time with your family. We’ve worked hard enough. Let’s use this period to check our health,” he urged.
“When we leave this abode, the Constitution requires that there must be a replacement. Life will go on without you. Don’t be afraid to know your medical condition. It is better to know and treat it than live in fear of the unknown, only for it to worsen.”
