The Ghana Black Stars have qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, scheduled to take place from 11 June to 19 July 2026 across three North American countries: Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America (USA).
Ghana sealed its place at the global event after beating Comoros 1:0 in their final group game at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, 12 October 2025. The Black Star finished top of Group I with 25 points after playing 10 matches.
The other teams in Group I for the 2026 qualifiers were Madagascar, who placed second in the group with 18 points; Mali, finishing third with 18 points; Comoros, finishing fourth with 15 points; the Central African Republic (CAR), placing fifth with 15 points; and Chad, finishing sixth with 1 point.
This is Ghana’s fifth qualification to the FIFA World Cup. Ghana has qualified for four FIFA World Cup tournaments: 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. In 2006, Ghana was the only African side to advance to the second round of the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the sixth African nation in a row to progress beyond the group stage of the World Cup.
The first half of the Black Stars – Comoros game ended in a goalless draw, even though the Black Stars played an impressive game. At the commencement of the second half, Mohammed Kudus scored Ghana’s first and only goal just 2 minutes into the half with assistance from Thomas Partey.
Ghana will now await the FIFA World Cup 26 Final Draw, which will take place at the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., on 5 December 2025, to find out which group it will be in at the tournament.
On Friday, 5 December 2025, the world will discover the group-stage matches for the FIFA World Cup 26™, with all eyes set to converge on the Kennedy Centre in Washington, DC, for the final draw.
As announced by the President of the United States and Chairman of the Kennedy Center, Donald J. Trump, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the White House, the Kennedy Center will serve as the location for team officials, ambassadors, fans representing the tournament’s Host Cities and global media representatives, amongst others, to unite, as one of the significant milestones on the path to the biggest and most engaging FIFA World Cup ever is held.
The Kennedy Centre is America’s national cultural centre and a living memorial to President John F. Kennedy, attracting millions of visitors each year to more than 2,000 performances, events, and exhibits.
In December, the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy will shine brightly at the venue as the world’s best national teams take their next steps on the path to lifting the coveted crown at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday, 19 July next year.
In a groundbreaking initiative for the Final Draw for the FIFA World Cup, fans from each of the 16 Host Cities (two in Canada, three in Mexico, and 11 in the United States) will be able to participate in a special lottery for the chance to win complimentary admission to the once-in-a-lifetime event, including a VIP experience.
A select number of admissions will be allocated to each host city, with the lottery procedures to be announced in due course.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “We are excited to host the most anticipated Final Draw for the FIFA World Cup in history in the cultural and entertainment heart of the United States, the Kennedy Centre in Washington, DC.
The draw is a significant tournament milestone and one that will continue the remarkable build-up to the biggest sporting event ever, as we get set for many landmark FIFA events across North America throughout 2026.
