Godwin Abayateye, aka “Capon,” who was charged with stealing, pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea by the court presided over by Mrs Susana Eduful.

A dispatch rider, who stole a motorcycle belonging to an educationist, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by the Accra Circuit Court.

Godwin Abayateye, aka “Capon,” who was charged with stealing, pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea by the court presided over by Mrs Susana Eduful.

Police Chief Inspector Samuel Ahiabor, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, Alpha Naa Lamiley Lamptey, 30, resident of Borteyman, in Accra, was an educationist while accused, now convict, was a resident of Cambodia, also in Accra.

The prosecution said Lamptey met the convict in her neighbourhood through Clinton, who told her (compliant) that convict wanted a motorbike for delivery services.

Chief Insp Ahiabo said the complainant gave her Royal 125 motorcycle she bought at GH¢5,150 to the convict to work with (delivery services).

The court heard that the convict after working for a few weeks went into hiding with the motorcycle and all efforts by the complainant to trace him (convict) proved futile.

Chief Insp Ahiabor said Abayateye, who had been arrested in an alleged robbery case, was identified by the complainant as the one who stole her motorcycle.

The prosecution said the convict admitted the offence in his investigation cautioned statement in the presence of an independent witness.

Chief InspAhgiabor told the court that Abayateye said that he (convict) had sold the motorcycle at a cost of GH¢1,000.00, but he (convict) could not assist the police to arrest the buyer of the motorcycle.
