Prominent Ghanaian dermatologist and founder of Skin Foundation Africa (SFA), Dr Kofi Ansah Brifo, widely known as “The Skin Messiah,” has announced the launch of a new nationwide skincare empowerment project dubbed “The Glass Skin Class 2025.”

The initiative aims to redefine healthy skin, empower Ghanaians with practical skincare knowledge, and promote safe skincare practices — all at no cost.

A mission born from research and compassion

Speaking about the inspiration behind the project, Dr Brifo explained that the class is rooted in findings from his academic research titled “The Psychological Impact of Acne on Young Adults and Adolescents in Ghana.”

His study revealed that acne, one of the most common skin conditions in Ghana, carries profound emotional and psychological effects, often leading to low self-esteem, social stigma, and depression.

“In our society, the face is more than beauty — it’s a passport to confidence and acceptance,” he said. “When the skin is not in its best form, it can trigger insecurity, anxiety, and even depression.”

Following the study, Dr Brifo launched the Summer Skin Project (SSP), which has provided free dermatological consultations to over 300 people struggling with acne and related conditions.

Data from this outreach identified poor skincare habits and product misuse as major contributors to acne and skin complications among Ghanaians.

What “Glass Skin” really means

Contrary to popular belief, Dr Brifo clarified that the concept of “Glass Skin” is not about achieving lighter or “toned” skin, but rather about achieving clear, healthy, and naturally radiant skin.

“The Glass Skin Class focuses on understanding your skin type, choosing the right products, and adopting safe, evidence-based skincare practices,” he explained. “Healthy skin is not a privilege — it’s a right that begins with knowledge.”

The month-long programme, commencing on 1st November 2025, will feature practical lessons, interactive sessions, and dermatologist-led discussions on:

* Identifying personal skin types

* Correcting common skincare mistakes

* Safe cleansing, moisturising, and exfoliation routines

* Recognising early signs of skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and hyperpigmentation

* Building confidence through healthy skincare

Collaboration and community impact

The Glass Skin Class 2025 forms part of Skin Foundation Africa’s Education and Advocacy Pillar, a broader effort to promote public health through dermatological education.

Dr Brifo has called on pharmaceutical companies, cosmetic brands, and corporate institutions to collaborate in supporting this free national initiative.

“This is not just a dermatology project — it’s a social health mission,” he stated. “Together, we can transform the culture of skincare in Ghana, empower young people, and prevent the emotional trauma associated with skin diseases.”

How to participate

Participation in The Glass Skin Class 2025 is free and open to all.
