FIFA Rankings: Ghana Moves to 75th, remain 14th in Africa

The senior national football team of Ghana, the Black Stars, has moved up one place to 75th in the latest FIFA World Rankings, but remains 14th on the African continent.

Despite the marginal rise in the global table, Ghana’s ranking in Africa remains unchanged as the Black Stars continue to rebuild under new technical direction.

Their recent performances, including mixed results in international friendlies and competitive fixtures, have not been strong enough to alter their continental standing significantly.

African rankings

On the African scene, Morocco still leads the pack, sitting at 11th in the world. They are followed by Senegal (18th), Egypt (35th), Côte d’Ivoire (36th), Algeria (38th), and the Ivory Coast (44th) to complete the top six in Africa.

The Black Stars’ slight improvement offers hope ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. However, analysts stress that consistency, squad depth, and tactical cohesion will be crucial if Ghana is to climb higher in both continental and global rankings.

Ghana will resume its 2026 World Cup qualifiers in October when the Black Stars will play against the Central African Republic and the Comoros, facing tough opposition from African rivals.

Ghana remains at the top of Group I with 19 points from eight games, followed by Madagascar in second place with 16 points.

Ghana Coach Otto Addo aims for further improvement when the squad returns in October for their final two group fixtures against the Central African Republic and Comoros on matchdays nine and ten, as Ghana pursues qualification for the 2026 World Cup, to be hosted in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
