Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, believes Ghana is capable of co-hosting the FIFA World Cup with Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire in the future.
The Minister is calling on the government to consider plans to make that idea a possibility following FIFA’s recent decision to award host rights to multiple countries.
USA, Mexico, and Canada are the hosts for next year’s global showpiece, while Morocco, Spain, and Portugal will co-host the 2030 edition.
Adams believes Ghana could follow similar steps to Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire.
“They [FIFA] are beginning to adopt several nations doing it, so maybe who knows, the next one would be Ghana, Nigeria, and then Côte d’Ivoire coming together also to host the World Cup, and it will be good,” he said.
“I believe that we, together with Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, who have already invested quite a lot because they hosted AFCON not too long ago.
“We can also ask for that right.”
Ghana last hosted a major event in 2024 with the delayed 2023 African Games, while Côte d’Ivoire hosted the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
