The government is preparing to lay a bill before Parliament to rename Kotoka International Airport as Accra International Airport, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has disclosed.
He made the announcement during a Parliamentary Leadership media briefing on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
According to him, the proposal forms part of the bills and regulations expected to be presented to the House during the current meeting.
Mr Ayariga explained that the Minister for Transport will introduce the bill to seek parliamentary approval for the proposed name change.
Under parliamentary procedure, any change to the name of a state facility must receive Parliament’s approval before it can take legal effect.
Kotoka International Airport is Ghana’s main international airport and serves as the country’s primary aviation gateway for passenger travel, cargo operations, and diplomatic movements.
A name change would require amendments to official state records and aviation documentation.
Mr Ayariga did not indicate when the bill would be formally laid before Parliament, but noted that it is part of the Transport Ministry’s legislative agenda for the ongoing session, which began today.
