Dear Mr. President: I am so sorry that Lincoln University pulled their doctorate award at the last minute. Savage move! But in all things we give thanks.
Console yourself with becoming the FIRST President in the History of Ghana, if not in the history of the world, to have an honorary doctorate offered and promptly cancelled within 8 days. Chaaampion! Ayekoo! Ghana is proud of you!
Maybe in your quiet moments, you will finally realise that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo did not go chasing after honorary doctorates. Rather, it was the world simply acknowledging his achievements – outstanding democratic credentials, maybe?
With regard to the Lincoln doctorate…considering this honour was to celebrate your “outstanding contributions to democratic governance,” can you imagine if someone had written to them about Ken Ofori-Atta and his current ICE detention instead? And not about some Bill in Ghana’s Parliament far away across the Atlantic?
The petitioner would have catalogued the various instances under which your government has sidestepped due process in dealing with Mr. Ofori-Atta’s matters?
You remember Richard Jakpa and the fourteen armed men who raided Ken’s home without a search warrant in February 2025?
You remember your Police, Military and Intelligence bosses received formal complaints from Ofori-Atta about the raid of his home? Till today, no reply oo. Eii!
You remember your Attorney General Dominic Ayine orchestrating Ken’s visa revocation and happily announcing it on TV? Or your spokesman Ofosu-Kwakye telling the world that the revocation was because “extradition may take too long?”
As for the Special Persecutor and INTERPOL Red Alert Notice wahala, that one I know you remember paa, because rumour has it that you were really sad when the Red Notice on Ken Ofori-Atta was permanently deleted.
Under your stewardship, the abuse of due process in dealing with Ken Ofori-Atta can NEVER be interpreted as “outstanding contributions to democratic governance.” And also since it is a dynamic, evolving situation your credentials would have taken a greater hit if a group had alerted Lincoln University. So please take heart, my beloved President. It could have been much worse.
According to Google, Caroline Detention Center, where Kenneth is being kept is a little over a hundred miles away from Lincoln University. By cancelling their event, Lincoln have freed up your schedule for the morning of March 26th.
So, Mr. President, maybe you should go to Bowling Green that morning to visit Ken Ofori-Atta your Achimota Primary School classmate? I believe it would be a grand reunion for you both, sharing cherished memories of your childhood. Please consider this.
If you can make it to Caroline Detention Center on Thursday, maybe you could have your chef at the Ghana Enbassy make Ken Ofori-Atta, some ebunu ebunu (green) soup with plenty snails and fish in proper Kyebi style. A very sweet one, please. Thank you.
Safe travels through the US, dear President Mahama. God be with you.
Your humble servant,

P.S. Ambassador Victor Smith, you go explain taya! Lincoln University in their wisdom simply referred to “unforeseen circumstances.” There was no need for you to bring in LGBTQ propaganda on this one. Diplomacy entails choosing one’s “battles” wisely.
