Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Ghana’s former Vice-President and the New Patriotic Party’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and his wife, Samira Bawumia, have been safely relocated from Qatar to another country, diplomatic sources have confirmed to Accra-based Joy FM.
The relocation was facilitated by Ghana’s diplomatic missions in the region following direct instructions from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Acting on behalf of the Government of Ghana, the Minister directed embassies across the Middle East to take swift and decisive measures to guarantee the safety of Dr Bawumia, his spouse, and members of their delegation.
Embassy officials subsequently engaged host authorities to coordinate prompt and discreet travel arrangements.
Although specific operational details have not been disclosed for security reasons, officials familiar with the process described it as seamless, meticulously handled, and executed with a high level of professionalism.
In addition to the relocation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of all Ghanaian nationals in the region.
Government sources say surveillance and monitoring efforts have been intensified in response to the evolving security situation, with diplomatic missions placed on heightened alert.
Authorities further indicated that consular teams remain on standby to offer emergency assistance and other necessary support to Ghanaians residing in or transiting through affected areas.
Citizens have also been advised to maintain close contact with the nearest Ghanaian mission and to strictly comply with official advisories as the situation continues to unfold.
