Newly elected executives of the Law Students Network (LSN), an association of law students of the Ghana School of Law (GSL), who identify with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have been sworn into office to steer the affairs of the Network over the next year (2025/2026 academic year).
The new executives were sworn in at the annual general conference of the LSN, held at the UPSA campus in Accra on Saturday, 13 December 2025, under the theme “Holding Together, Building Together, and Winning Together, A Brighter Future for Young Patriots.”
The executives
The executives who served during the 2024/2025 academic year handed over to the new executives for the 2025/2026 academic year. The outgoing executives were led by Irene Addo, Convener.
The remaining outgoing executives are Samuel D. Akoto, Communications; Alex Martinson, Secretary; Davis Nii Armah Ollenu, Treasurer; Hermina Catherine Baidoo, Organiser; and Prince Ofoe Akoto, Deputy Organiser. Daniel OTTING Awuah and Nana Abrokwa Asare served as Patron

Be courageous
Special guest of honour at the ceremony and former counsel to President Akufo-Addo, Kow Essuman, urged the leadership of the law student body to be courageous and principled as they go about their studies and duties. He also charged the new LSN leadership to build the credibility of the network and, as students, endeavour to build scholarship.
He called on the LSN leadership to organise programmes and invite the lawyers in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to come and speak to the student body. Essuman pointed out that the LSN needs to “use” the NPP lawyers and do so effectively. He also urged the student body to be mindful of their conduct both in and outside the classroom.
“I wish the new executives well, I wish the LSN well, and I pray that there will be so many more engagements for us to build a network, connect, and get to know each other better,” Kow Essuman said.
Fidelity to the Law
The Director of Legal Affairs of the NPP, Gary Nimako Marfo, urged the students to show fidelity to the law and to exhibit mastery in their chosen field. He noted that their mastery of the law would be recognized before their membership or affiliation to the Party, and encouraged them to demonstrate scholarship in their field. According to Mr Marfo, lawyers should speak the law, backed by authority, and not engage in propaganda anchored on political emotions.
The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North and former National Organiser of the NPP, Sammi Awuku, also urged members of the LSN to continue working hard and assured them that their efforts would not be in vain under a future NPP government.
Respect
On his part, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, encouraged the law students to show respect to their office staff when they are called to the Bar, noting that lawyers often learn a great deal from office staff, such as clerks, sometimes even more than from law books.
He also admonished that upon their call to the Bar, lawyers should show respect to judges and should not attempt to fight them.
Other speakers at the event were Nana Akwasi Awuah, former Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (now GoldBod), and Maataa Opare, Founder and Non-Executive Chairperson of Hawkhurst & Dua Property Services and Managing Partner of Hawkhurst & Dua Associates.
Splendid performance
In her report, the outgoing convenor, Irene Addo, listed some 14 achievements her team was able to achieve. Among the achievements are the Pursuit of the Bar Episode 1, in 2024, Community Engagement, Scouting for aspirants and campaigning for SRC positions, Leadership and Law Series (Maiden Edition), Restructuring Documents and meeting with Patron Sammy Awuku, and Review and Adoption of LSN Constitution.
The rest are Appointment of additional Patrons and Board of Advisors, Free Entrance Exams Tutorials, Elections of Incoming Executives, Information Session with Part 2s, Stakeholder Engagement with Minority Leader, Recognition and Appreciation of sponsors of LSN activities within the year, Membership base of over 200 students, and Learned Dinner 2025
She challenged the new leadership to improve the welfare of members, leverage their competencies for political development, and build a stronger network of relevant contributions to national and political development.
“The leadership should also focus on the following: Payment of Dues by Members, Scholarship Funding, Community Engagement Project, Party Operations- recognition and role assigned by the Legal Directorate and the party as a whole, and Advocacy, Policy Research, and Political Communications,” Ms Addo charged the new LSN leadership.
New direction
Gyasi Kwaku Abraham, the newly sworn-in Convenor, in his address, noted that in the academic year ahead, “the LSN promises to organise free tutorials for both Part One and Part Two students, starting from January 2026.
“We are also planning to organise a second edition of our Leadership and Law Series in March, as well as a symposium to assess the performance of the government over the course of the year,” Gyasi Kwaku Abraham said.
Gyasi Kwaku Abraham, in his statement, articulated the position of the LSN on some key national issues. He reiterated LSN’s position on the government’s weaponisation of bail conditions against former government functionaries and called for an immediate end to state-sponsored persecution.
“We are vehemently against the clandestine actions by the government to establish a supreme leader in the country by going after statutory bodies and replacing their heads with puppets of the government.
“We are further against the clandestine plans by the government to scrap the only truly independent anti-corruption body, the Office of the Special Prosecutor, and subsume its role under the partisan Attorney-General’s Office, which has been rendered virtually an appendage of the NDC headquarters by the current Attorney-General,” the LSN Convenor said.
“We call on the government to publicly commit to abiding by every court directive that will emanate from the ongoing litigation over the unlawful handing of the Venerable Gertrude Torkornoo from office as Chief Justice.
“On campus-related issues, we call on the leadership of the SRC, particularly the Congress, to immediately bring an end to the show of power and display of partisanship, and to work in the interest of the students whose resources they are wasting,” Gyasi Kwaku Abraham said.

The Network’s aims and objectives include “providing a platform for law students to undertake research and engage in discussions on legal, policy, and emerging issues related to social, political, and economic sectors in Ghana.
