The communications directorate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), under the leadership of Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications, has extended its congratulations to the party’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, on winning the 31 January 2026 primaries.
In a statement issued under the hand of Mr Ahiagbah on Sunday, 1 February 2026, the directorate also commended the four other aspirants who contested in the race but were not successful. The directorate also indicated that it is committed to working hand in hand with the candidate to prosecute the party’s 2028 campaign.
“On behalf of the New Patriotic Party’s Communications Directorate, I extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on his decisive victory in the Party’s presidential primaries. This outcome reflects the confidence of our delegates in his leadership, ideas, and capacity to lead the NPP into a new phase of renewal and growth.
“We also commend the other aspirants who contested the primaries. Their courage in accepting the result and committing to the work ahead has enriched our internal democracy and signaled unity. Competitive elections have always been a source of renewal for the NPP, and this contest was no exception,” the statement read.
“As the primaries conclude, our collective responsibility is clear. The Communications Directorate calls on the four unsuccessful candidates and their supporters, and indeed all-Party members, to rally behind the flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The time for competition has passed; the time for unity, healing, and hard work has arrived. Together, we must rebuild and reposition the Party for victory in the 2028 general elections.
“The NPP has consistently proven that unity after contest is our greatest strength. By closing ranks and speaking with one voice, we can reconnect with our base, expand our appeal, and present a credible, compelling alternative to the Ghanaian people,” the statement by the communications directorate further read.
Mr Ahiagbah in the state also urged “all communicators and supporters to project unity, respect, and purpose in [their] public engagements. “The journey to 2028 begins now, and it must be anchored in togetherness, discipline, and an unshakable belief in the future of our Party,” Richard Ahiagbah added in his statement.
