Consumers across Ghana are set to pay more for sachet water, popularly known as “pure water,” as a new price adjustment takes effect from April 6, 2026.

The cost of a full bag is expected to rise to GH¢15, a development already raising concerns among households and small businesses that depend heavily on the product.

The increase comes amid mounting pressure on producers, who say the adjustment is necessary to remain viable in the face of rising operational costs. Industry players point to higher prices for raw materials, particularly plastic.

The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) has announced the price hike in sachet water.

In a statement issued on Thursday, April 2, 2026, the association explained that the adjustment is driven by a global shortage of polymers and escalating production costs linked to the ongoing conflict in Iran, which has disrupted supply chains.

“The rising costs have made it challenging for manufacturers to maintain current prices,” the group said.

Under the revised pricing structure:

  • Ex-factory price is set at GH¢8 per bag of 30 sachets (500ml each)
  • Ex-truck price will be GH¢10 per bag of 30 sachets (500ml each)
  • Maximum retail price is pegged at GH¢15 per bag of 30 sachets (500ml each)

NASPAWAP has urged both retailers and consumers to comply with the new pricing guidelines to ensure fairness in the market.

“This adjustment is necessary to sustain production and ensure the continuous supply of safe drinking water,” the association added.
