The Supreme Court has ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to immediately halt all actions connected to the proposed Kpandai parliamentary rerun until the court delivers a final ruling on the matter.

The directive suspends every stage of preparation for the rerun election while the legal dispute over the constituency’s parliamentary results remains unresolved.

When the case was called on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the apex court adjourned proceedings to January 13, 2026, granting the parties additional time to further examine the issues before the court.

The planned Kpandai parliamentary rerun has been the subject of intense legal contention following disagreements arising from the constituency’s parliamentary election, leading to the Supreme Court’s intervention.

Until a definitive judgment is issued, the EC is prohibited from organising, announcing, or conducting any rerun activities in the constituency.

The ruling is expected to significantly affect the electoral timeline in Kpandai, as political actors and residents await the court’s decision early next year.

Earlier, the EC announced that the Kpandai Constituency parliamentary election will be rerun on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

This follows a ruling by the Tamale High Court directing that the election be conducted again within thirty days.

The Commission also confirmed receipt of an official notice from the Clerk to Parliament on Monday, 8th December 2025, declaring the Kpandai parliamentary seat vacant.

The rerun will feature only the three candidates who contested the 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency.

Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director of the Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation Department of the Electoral Commission, made the announcement and urged the public to note the new election date.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to conducting a transparent and credible electoral process in compliance with the court’s orders.
