Three people, including two children, were shot dead in a late-night attack at Sakpari, a community in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.
The tragic incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025, and left the Manager of Maxx Empire FM, a Binduri-based radio station, George Bukari, injured in the hand.
Attackers Invade Family Home
According to local sources, unidentified gunmen stormed the residence of Mr. Bukari and opened fire on the occupants within the compound.
“The assailants were reportedly hiding in a burnt house near the victims’ residence. George Bukari had taken the two children to the bathhouse but returned to the backyard to retrieve his sandals, leaving the children and his uncle in the compound.
“It was while he was returning that the attackers opened fire, killing the two children and his uncle. Luckily, a bullet aimed at him was blocked by a cow, which died instantly but caused injury to his hand,” an opinion leader, Atiga Salam, reports by Graphic Online stated.
The deceased have been identified as an adult male and two children — one about 14 years old and the other around five, who was the son of the Maxx Empire FM Manager.
Mr. Salam added that the assailants, believed to be civilians from a rival community in Binduri, were two men on foot.
“They were not driving or riding. The people nearby couldn’t defend themselves because they were unarmed,” he explained.
The gunmen fled the scene before residents could respond.
Reprisal Burning of MP’s House
In what appears to be a retaliatory act, a house belonging to the Member of Parliament for Binduri, Issifu Mahmoud, located in the Aniisim community, was set ablaze at dawn following the shooting.
“This morning, we woke up to find that the MP’s house had been burnt. I don’t believe the same people who carried out the shooting were responsible for this, but perhaps others who were angered by the attack,” Mr. Salam said.
No injuries were reported in connection with the arson.
Rising Tension in Binduri
The attack has heightened tension in Binduri, an area that has in recent years experienced sporadic violence linked to the protracted Bawku conflict.
Residents say the killings have sent shockwaves through the community, calling for a stronger security presence and a thorough investigation.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Community leaders are appealing for calm while urging security agencies to act swiftly to bring the perpetrators to justice.
