The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has admitted that the NDC lost the Techiman South seat in the 7 December 2024 parliamentary elections.
Sammy Gyamfi disclosed this when he addressed a press conference several hours after the polls closed following the 7 December presidential and parliamentary elections.
“In Bono East Region, the home region of the incoming first lady, I can tell you that out of the 11 constituencies, we have won 10. The only one we did not win is Techiman South, Sammy Gyamfi said.
Inspite of this tacit admission, leaders and members of the NDC at the national and at the local level in the Techiman South constituency have prevented officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) from declaring the collated constituency results for Techiman South.
A video that has gone viral also showed supporters of the NDC in the Techiman South constituency attacking the constituency collation centre and ransacking the entire place. In the video, the ballot papers from the Techiman South constituency are seen scattered on the forecourt of collation centre.
This development in the Techiman South constituency and several other constituencies have gone a long way to delay the transfer of collated results at constituency level to the regional level for onward transfer to the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Jean Mensa who is the returning officer for the presidential election.
