Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, has urged all presidential aspirants and their supporters to rally behind whoever emerges victorious in the party’s ongoing presidential primaries.

Speaking to Channel One News at a polling centre on Saturday, January 31, he emphasised that party unity must take precedence after the polls, calling on aspirants and their backers to accept the outcome in the broader interest of the party.

“My advice to all the aspirants is that whoever wins, it is the party that has won. So all of us will give the support that we have to whoever wins,” he added.

Mr Osei Owusu also expressed satisfaction with how the electoral process was unfolding, describing it as transparent, peaceful, and secure.

“What I’m seeing is a free and fair process. What I’m seeing is a very well-secured voting centre. What I’ve seen is a rather very calm atmosphere. I’m confident that by the time the process is over, nobody will have any justification to complain,” he said.

More than 211,000 delegates are expected to vote at over 300 polling centres across the country. Five aspirants are contesting the race: former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong; former Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum; former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong; and businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

The election is being closely watched, as it will determine the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election and shape the NPP’s direction following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Security has been heightened nationwide, with police deployed to polling centres to ensure a peaceful and credible process. Party leadership has also urged delegates to vote responsibly and maintain unity after the results are declared.
