The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a series of planned and emergency maintenance works across its operational regions, set to take place from Sunday, 1 March, through Thursday, 5 March.

According to a statement issued by ECG’s Communications Department on Friday, 27 February, the exercises are intended to enhance service reliability and strengthen the electricity network.

The works will result in temporary power interruptions affecting several communities in the Greater Accra, Tema, Accra East, and Accra West regions.

The first outages will begin on Sunday, 1 March. In the Greater Accra Region, residents of Trassaco Valley Enclave and surrounding areas will experience a scheduled interruption from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Industrial and commercial customers along Western Road in Tema, including Early Power, Apollo Steel, Crown Can, De-Simone, Tropical Cable, Multi Pac, Jon Moore, Cal Bank, and La Bianca, will also be affected during the same hours.

Emergency maintenance has been scheduled for Sunday in the Accra West Region, targeting La Darkuman, Kokompe, and neighbouring communities. ECG said the urgent work is necessary to address critical network faults and apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Planned outages continue on Monday, 2 March, in Accra West, affecting Alogboshie, Achimota Neoplan, Benjilo, Akweteman, and surrounding areas from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Tuesday, 3 March, will see extensive maintenance across multiple regions. In Accra East, areas including Santana Market, Zion Police Station, Teshie Camp 2, ICGC, parts of Labone, Dome Pillar 2, Dome K Boat, No Visa, Auntie Mary, and surrounding communities will experience interruptions from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Tema communities affected include Spintex Kotobabi, Inkoom Hospital, Community 11 (Monte Carlo, Shell Filling Station, Gyan Towers), and CAC in Communities 5 and 3. Accra West areas, including Red Top, Old Barrier, New Aplaku, and Kings University, will also be impacted.

On Wednesday, 4 March, Accra West will experience outages from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in Tunga, New Century, Dansoman Police Station, Dansoman Market, Weija Junction, Tetegu, and neighbouring areas.

The final day of maintenance, Thursday, 5 March, will involve extensive works across Accra East, Tema, and Accra West. In Accra East, parts of Ashongman Estate, Pure Water, Car Price, Railways, C-Root Company, Asiedu Nketia, Oyarifa, Gravel Pit, Ashiyie, and surrounding areas will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Tema communities experiencing outages from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm include Jericho, Roman Down, Underbridge Market, State School for the Deaf, Safisana, BBF, Adjei Kodjo, Kanawu, Tsopoli, Dawa, Sege, Korluedor, Adokope, Kasseh, Inglisi, Ada Foah, Big Ada, Totope, Azizanya, Treasure Island, and Aqua Safari.

In Accra West, power will be interrupted from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in Doblo, Hebron, Medie, Sarpeiman, Satellite, Tabora No.2–6, Bankyease, Racecourse, Alhaji, and Rockstar Area at Tantra Hills.

ECG advised residents and businesses to plan accordingly and thanked the public for their understanding as essential upgrades are carried out.

Meanwhile, the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has delivered a scathing critique of the government immediately following President John Dramani Mahama’s 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Mr Afenyo-Markin argued that after one year in office, the administration continues to rely on slogans rather than implementing tangible actions.

Addressing the House, he highlighted pressing national concerns, including soaring electricity tariffs, youth unemployment, the welfare of cocoa farmers, illegal mining, and alleged irregularities in government contracts.

“What the President failed to tell the people of Ghana is that one year into government, he is still acting with slogans and no concrete actions. Electricity tariffs have skyrocketed, and Ghanaians cannot afford electricity,” he said.

The Minority Leader accused the government of dismissing thousands of Ghanaian youths through letters issued by the Chief of Staff. He also warned of a potential scandal in the recruitment of security personnel, promising that the minority will demand full accountability.

“As we speak, there is a scandal looming in security services recruitment. We know who brought that company to the ministry. Karma has a way, and we, the minority, will pursue the person and ensure full disclosure,” he stated.

Mr Afenyo-Markin also criticised the government’s treatment of cocoa farmers, noting reductions in producer prices and the absence of Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku.

He questioned the administration’s emphasis on macroeconomic indicators while neglecting farmers’ welfare.

“Mr Speaker, the cocoa farmers — their producer price has been reduced, and Eric Opoku cannot be found. They don’t care about cocoa farmers, yet they are here talking about inflation and macroeconomics,” he said.

Illegal small-scale mining, or galamsey, was another focus of his address. The Minority Leader highlighted the continuing hardships faced by ordinary Ghanaians and called for urgent action.

“Mr Speaker, galamsey continues to cause suffering for Ghanaians, and we expect concrete measures to be taken,” he emphasised.

While acknowledging some economic gains mentioned by the President, Mr. Afenyo-Markin attributed these successes to previous policy initiatives, particularly the Gold-for-Reserve policy, urging the government to recognise the role of former Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia.

“Our elders say give credit where credit is due. Mr. President spoke of some gains today; those gains come from the Gold-for-Reserve policy. What the government failed to tell Ghanaians is that Bawumia is the brain behind this policy. I urge the government: give Bawumia what belongs to Bawumia,” he stated.
