Germany’s President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has broken ground for the construction of a €5.6 million Centre of Excellence for Green Technology at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI).
The centre, which forms part of Ghana’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) transformation agenda, is expected to become a major hub for innovation, research, and hands-on training in renewable energy and sustainable technology.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu said the initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s “Reset Agenda,” which seeks to equip young Ghanaians with employable, skill-based training to tackle youth unemployment.
“As part of President Mahama’s Reset Agenda, His Excellency Steinmeier, we are focusing on developing a TVET policy and establishing a TVET fund to support the skills training of young people so they can make meaningful contributions to national development,” he said.
The project is expected to strengthen Ghana’s technical education landscape while fostering partnerships between Ghanaian and German institutions to drive industrial innovation and sustainability.
