A video captured by the train’s onboard camera shows the man — whose identity has yet to be confirmed — walking along the rail tracks as the train approached. Despite repeated horn blasts from the operator in an effort to warn him, the victim remained on the track and was struck before the train came to a stop.

The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has expressed deep regret over the tragic incident, which occurred around 4:15 p.m. when the Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU2) train was traveling toward Afienya along the Tema–Mpakadan line.

Police officers from the Community 25 Division arrived at the scene and transported the body to the Tema General Hospital for examination and identification.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the train operator repeatedly sounded the horn upon noticing the man on the tracks, but the victim failed to move to safety before the collision occurred.

The GRDA has cautioned the public against walking along or crossing railway lines, emphasizing that such actions pose grave risks to life. The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safety across all railway corridors and pledged continued cooperation with law enforcement and emergency agencies to help prevent similar tragedies.

Management has also launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the event.

This latest incident heightens concerns about pedestrian safety on Ghana’s rail network, as authorities intensify efforts to educate the public about the dangers of encroaching on train routes.

Earlier on Monday, another train was struck by a stone allegedly thrown at it, shattering a window before the perpetrators fled the scene.
