The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.

According to WAEC, the entire results of 653 candidates have been cancelled for possessing mobile phones in examination halls. In a statement signed by Mr John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at the WAEC National Office, the Council also annulled the subject results of 6,295 candidates who were found with foreign materials, including prepared notes, textbooks and printed documents.

Additionally, WAEC has withheld the subject results of 908 candidates, as well as the full results of 158 others, due to various suspected offences.

“Yet still, some subject results of candidates from 185 Schools have been withheld for alleged collusion. These cases are still under investigation,” the statement said.

“We are working around the clock to ensure that the withheld results of these candidates are being published before the end of December 2025, depending on the outcome of investigations.”

The measures were taken after the Council concluded investigations into reported irregularities during the examination. The Ghana Examinations Committee, at its 40th meeting on Wednesday, November 17, 2025, endorsed the decisions.

The statement further revealed that 35 individuals—19 of them teachers—were implicated in activities that compromised the integrity of the examination. Nineteen have already been arraigned and convicted, receiving fines or prison terms. The remaining 16 are yet to be presented before the courts. Beyond the court’s rulings, the list of teachers involved will be forwarded to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service for additional disciplinary action.

WAEC noted that login details would be provided to Heads of Schools to facilitate access to candidates’ results. Candidates may also check their results online at the Council’s website, www.waecgh.org.

The Council cautioned the public against fraudsters offering to upgrade results for a fee, reminding candidates that WAEC results are secure and verifiable using its results verification system.

WAEC expressed appreciation to stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, Heads of Schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and all who contributed to the successful conduct of the examination.

A total of 461,736 candidates—207,415 males and 254,321 females from 1,021 schools—registered for the 2025 examination, representing a 0.24 per cent increase over the 2024 entry figure of 460,611. An estimated 5,821 candidates, representing 1.26 per cent, were absent.
