The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intensified its fight against drug abuse with a series of intelligence-led raids across the Eastern and Greater Accra regions, dismantling multiple drug dens under a festive season operation dubbed Operation White Ember.

In a statement shared on its Facebook page, the Commission said the coordinated swoops targeted identified drug hotspots from Mamfe and Tutu in the Eastern Region to Madina Redco Flats, Zongo Junction, and railway slum areas near Airport City in Accra.

The operation was expanded on Boxing Day to Tema Community One and Teshie Nungua, where dozens of suspects were picked up and various illicit substances seized. The raids were carried out with the support of NACOC’s K9 unit.

As part of the broader enforcement effort, officers also mounted patrols at major shopping malls and along popular beaches in Accra to curb drug-related activities during the holiday season.

Altogether, 72 suspects were arrested, with exhibits including ecstasy, methamphetamine and cannabis-infused alcoholic beverages recovered. NACOC said the interception of the drugs could have far-reaching social benefits, noting that the seizures potentially amount to “thousands of lives saved from the brink of addiction” over the festive period.

Residents in affected communities reportedly welcomed the operation, with many cheering as suspected drug dealers were removed from their neighbourhoods.

Beyond enforcement, NACOC officers conducted on-the-spot public education, sensitising residents on the dangers of drug abuse and its impact on community safety.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining Operation White Ember, assuring the public that similar intelligence-driven raids would continue in the coming days and months to ensure safety, joy, and well-being during the festive season and beyond.
