The Manhyia South Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori-Atta, has raised concerns over what he claims is a “hidden agenda” by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 elections.

Known popularly as “Tom Tom,” he suggested that the NDC’s lack of campaign activity is an indicator that they are plotting to disrupt the election process.

In an interview with Angel FM on Wednesday, October 30, Tom Tom asserted that whenever the NDC refrains from active campaigning close to elections, it signals an intention to “cause disorder and confusion.”

He noted: “As we can all see, the NDC has not been campaigning. We must be watchful of this tactic, as it suggests they may execute their plans through destabilizing acts.”

Tom Tom highlighted the contrast between the NPP and NDC campaigns, pointing out that the NPP’s “four-pronged strategy” involves active participation from their presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, his running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), and their spouses, Samira Bawumia and Alma Pokua Opoku Prempeh.

He commended their vigorous efforts, emphasising that the NPP’s team is fully engaged in reaching multiple constituencies daily, whereas the NDC’s candidate, John Mahama, appears less visible on the campaign trail.

He further praised Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s extensive campaign efforts, stating that NAPO is often more visible than his NDC counterpart, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

He also noted Samira Bawumia’s active presence in communities across Ghana, contrasting it with Lordina Mahama’s low profile.

Additionally, he acknowledged Alma Opoku Prempeh’s contributions to the NPP’s campaign efforts, contrasting her presence with the absence of any similar involvement from Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s spouse.

Tom Tom concluded by urging Ghanaians to remain vigilant against any potential disruptions during the election, cautioning that elections are won at polling stations, not through “crude tactics.”

He warned, “We should not allow any political party to create confusion during the election through ballot snatching and other acts.”

He further alleged that recent protests were orchestrated by the NDC to sow discord and credited NPP Members of Parliament for maintaining calm during recent parliamentary sessions.
