They are pushing for a new midfielder on loan after agreeing an £18m deal for striker Tammy Abraham from Besiktas.
Villa want midfield reinforcements in part because of recent injuries to Boubacar Kamara – ruled out for the season – and John McGinn.
Youri Tielemans is also a doubt after appearing to sustain an ankle injury in the victory over Newcastle at the weekend.
Their former player, Luiz, is available to switch loan clubs from Nottingham Forest, having made just five Premier League starts this season, totalling 318 minutes.
Any permanent aspect of a deal would only cost Villa a fraction of the £43m (€50m) they sold him to Juventus for in June 2024.
Luiz, who made over 200 appearances for Villa between 2019-2024, is still contracted to Juve until 2029.
His loan at Forest does include an obligation to buy, but it is conditional on the number of appearances he makes.
Villa is currently third in the Premier League, level on 46 points with Manchester City, and is well placed to progress in the Europa League as well as being in the FA Cup competition.
