A fire outbreak on Easter Monday swept through a densely populated area at Afful Nkwanta, Dagomba Line in the Subin Sub-Metro of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, destroying more than 200 structures and displacing hundreds of residents.

The blaze, which started around 4:15 a.m., razed approximately 226 structures and affected a total of 644 people, according to local officials.

The victims include 356 men, 150 women, 60 boys and 78 girls.

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service, with support from personnel stationed at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, brought the fire under control at about 6:55 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities say investigations are underway.

Residents affected by the blaze are reported to have lost homes and property, raising concerns about immediate shelter and relief support in the area.

Officials say a detailed report on the incident is expected to be released following further assessments.
