Four suspected armed robbers have been arrested by the police at Asankragwa in the Western Region following a robbery attack on two Chinese nationals, during which cash and other valuables were stolen.

The suspects have been identified as Issaku Ibrahim, 42; Fatau Ali, 25; Yahaya Mumuni, 26; and Emmanuel Antwi, 22.

Police retrieved a large cache of items from the suspects, including two pump-action guns, one Bruni Mod 84 Cal. 9 PAK pistol with a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition, one amulet or talisman, a machete, two CCTV decoders, cash amounting to GH¢198,200, 14 AA cartridges, an iPhone 13 mobile phone, a Nokia C300 mobile phone and a Villovan mobile phone.

A police situational report said the four suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue. It added that efforts are underway, in collaboration with community members, to apprehend another suspect who is currently on the run.

According to the report, an additional suspect was arrested earlier in the morning by community members and later handed over to the police to assist with ongoing investigations.

The report stated that on March 12, 2026, at about 1920 hours, Chen Zchao, a Chinese national residing in an unmarked house at Malta, a suburb of Asankragwa, together with Christopher Opoku of the same address, reported to the charge office that at about 1830 hours the same day, he was at his spare parts shop with his younger brother, Yao Chan, when six armed men attacked them.

“The suspects robbed them of their personal belongings, including three mobile phones (value yet to be determined) and cash amounting to GH¢200,000.00. The suspects subsequently fled the scene in a black Toyota Voxy vehicle heading towards Sefwi Bekwai. The complainant therefore requested police assistance.”

“Upon receipt of the complaint, the Asankrangwa Night Patrol Team led by Inspector Stephen A. Bimpong, with D/Inspector Henry Baiden, G/Sgt. Seth Owusu Gyan, G/Sgt. Justice Jongsongo, and G/Sgt. Winfred Ahlidza, onboard service vehicle number GP 959 driven by G/Sgt. Francis Quayson, quickly responded and pursued the suspects,” the report stated.

The information was also relayed to the Sumpre Police Checkpoint to assist in effecting the arrest of the suspects.

According to the report, at about 20:00 hours on the same day, a black Toyota Voxy vehicle with registration number GS 756-25 approached the Sumpre police barrier.

“Upon spotting the police officers at the checkpoint, the occupants abruptly opened the doors of the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot.”

“Police personnel on duty at the barrier—Inspector Anthony Annan Mills, Inspector Edward Cudjoe, G/Constable Joseph Asamoah, and G/Constable Sunday Azundow Ayimbila—together with the Asankrangwa Night Patrol Team, pursued and successfully arrested four suspects.”
